About Jamillia
Originally from West Philadelphia with roots in Liberia, West Africa, Jamillia Kamara is a values-driven steward, writer, speaker and strategist. Jamillia specializes in meeting individuals and communities where they are, identifying high leverage opportunities and building collaborative relationships that center equitable results.
Driven by a love of culture and community, Jamillia’s professional experiences span from the classroom to the boardroom. Drawing on her experiences as an educator, advocate, and social entrepreneur, Jamillia's work centers the experiences of communities most impacted by economic injustice and explores new strategies for transforming systems to better meet their needs.
Jamillia is a reflective learner at heart with the ability to both lead and follow. She is a creative thinker and problem solver who uses writing to explore the intersections of cultural identity, social impact, systemic injustice, fulfillment and joy. Through her writing, Jamillia invites readers to authentically grapple with power, self-doubt, perfectionism, the opportunity to cultivate a growth practice routed in vulnerability - a trait she has resisted but come to respect - and dreams of a world with space for each of us to revel in.
In January 2023, Jamillia debuted The Community Care poetry capsule collection in partnership with Meshwork Press. Her latest collection, BLOOM, was released to email subscribers on August 16th and to the general public on August 17th, 2023.
